Arts Education Day at
the Capitol was a resounding success, from the
release of new findings linking fine arts education
to academic success and lower drop out rates to
impressive performances by 20 student performing
groups representing all of the fine arts
disciplines.
The day began with students hand-delivering packets
to every Legislator inviting them to the day's
events and informing them of the importance of fine
arts education in school. Representative Rob Eissler,
Chair of the House Public Education Committee
sponsored a press conference where he championed the
importance of fine arts in Texas schools. TCQAE
Chair and TMEA Executive Director Robert Floyd
presented the findings from an analysis of TEA data
on fine arts enrollment, campus academic rating,
attendance and drop out rates.
